Embracing Neurodiversity: How the Employer Roundtable is Shaping Inclusive Workplaces

In 2017, a groundbreaking initiative was born with the launch of the Neurodiversity @ Work Employer Roundtable. Six founding member companies established this forward-thinking coalition: DXC Technology, EY, Ford, JP Morgan Chase, Microsoft, and SAP. Powered by Disability:IN, a non-profit organisation that helps businesses advance disability inclusion and equality, the roundtable aims to dismantle barriers and tap into the unique talents that neurodivergent individuals bring to the workplace. Currently, the roundtable is a group of nearly 50 companies that are committed to hiring and supporting neurodivergent employees such as those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and Tourette Syndrome.


The Mission and Vision

The inception of the Neurodiversity @ Work Employer Roundtable was driven by a pressing need to address the underrepresentation of neurodiverse talent in the workforce.  This initiative aims to tap into the unique talents of neurodivergent individuals, recognising that organisations thrive when they embrace diversity in thinking styles and abilities. This approach not only supports neurodivergent employees in presenting their best selves at work but also promotes a more diverse and inclusive culture within the participating organizations.


The Neurodiversity @ Work Employer Roundtable is dismantling barriers, proving that embracing neurodiversity is not just a moral imperative but a strategic advantage for organisations across industries.

Achievements and Impact

A testament to the roundtable's success is the launch of the Neurodiversity Career Connector (NDCC), a pioneering job search portal that has featured over 1,000 job listings from U.S. employers eager to hire neurodivergent talent. This initiative not only facilitates meaningful employment opportunities for neurodivergent job seekers but also contributes to higher retention rates, productivity, and employee satisfaction among businesses. Furthermore, the roundtable's efforts, including the publication of the Autism @ Work Playbook—a resource downloaded more than 10,000 times since 2019—underscore the tangible benefits of neurodiversity programs in the workplace.


Educational Initiatives and Community Support

The roundtable's commitment extends beyond recruitment to include comprehensive support through training, workshops, and webinars. These educational initiatives are designed to enhance neurodiversity awareness and foster a supportive environment for neurodivergent employees. By equipping managers and teams with the knowledge and tools to embrace neurodiversity, the roundtable is paving the way for more inclusive and dynamic workplaces.
