In a world where language barriers can be a significant obstacle, especially for refugees and asylum seekers, Tarjimly emerges as a shining example of how technology and human compassion can make a profound difference. This revolutionary app facilitates critical communication for those in dire need and fosters a global community of support and understanding.

A Response to Urgent Needs

In the wake of challenges faced by refugees globally, Aziz Alghunaim and Atif Javed, driven by the urgency of President Trump's first Muslim ban in 2017, embarked on a journey to create Tarjimly. Quitting their jobs at Palantir and AJ+, respectively, they developed an app to eliminate language barriers that hinder refugees and aid workers, providing them with the necessary support and assistance. Tarjimly, which translates to translate for me in Arabic, uses advanced machine learning to match refugees with volunteer translators best suited to their immediate needs.

How Does Tarjimly Work?

Tarjimly is straightforward yet powerful in its approach. Here's how it seamlessly connects people across linguistic divides:

  1. Download and Sign Up: Users, whether refugees, asylum seekers, or volunteers, download the app and sign up, indicating their role.

  2. Request a Translator: Beneficiaries specify their language need, and Tarjimly's algorithm scours its network for the best match.

  3. Matching: A volunteer translator is notified and can accept the request, depending on availability.

  4. Live Session: A direct communication channel is opened for text, voice, documents, or calls, facilitating the needed translation.

  5. Feedback: Both parties can rate their experience post-session, ensuring quality and satisfaction.

Over 15,000 refugees have benefited from the app, thanks to the dedication of over 9,000 volunteers who collectively speak 80 languages.

The Impact of Tarjimly: Beyond Translation

Tarjimly's influence extends far beyond mere translation. It has been a lifeline in various critical situations, from medical emergencies to legal aid. Over 15,000 refugees have benefited from the app, thanks to the dedication of over 9,000 volunteers who collectively speak 80 languages. This global reach, spanning 95 countries, underscores the app's significant role in humanitarian efforts. Moreover, Tarjimly's emphasis on human translators ensures that translations are accurate and culturally sensitive, distinguishing it from AI-based translation tools like Google Translate.

Tarjimly's Achievements and Recognition

The success and utility of Tarjimly have not gone unnoticed. The app has participated in notable accelerator programs, including Fast Forward Accelerator and Y Combinator, highlighting its potential and impact. Moreover, Tarjimly's commitment to compliance and security, being HIPAA compliant, ensures the privacy and safety of its users, further solidifying its reputation as a trusted resource.

Tarjimly is a testament to technology's power when harnessed for social good. Its ability to connect individuals across language barriers not only provides immediate assistance but also promotes understanding and empathy on a global scale.
