Here, readers can borrow human beings serving as open books and have conversations they would not normally have access to. Every human book from the bookshelf represents a group in our society that is often subjected to prejudice, stigmatisation or discrimination because of their lifestyle, diagnosis, belief, disability, social status, ethnic origin, etc.

Origins and Global Reach

The journey began at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark, where the idea of human books first captivated over a thousand participants. The concept was simple yet revolutionary—volunteers, embodying human "books", shared their life stories, encompassing their battles with prejudice, stigma, and social exclusion. The immediate connection and the raw, honest dialogues sparked a movement that would soon spread across six continents and over 85 countries. Today, The Human Library is a testament to personal storytelling's power in creating inclusive and cohesive communities worldwide.
